Where we come from
CityTrax originates from Country Trax, the internationally acclaimed BMW Motorrad accredited off-road training partner.
That partnership allows us to offer training options for just about every rider and every goal. Every course is designed to build the skills that lead to greater confidence, maximum enjoyment, and the highest possible return on your investment in motorcycling.
Why formal training
Formal training is the quickest shortcut to feeling safer and more confident in whatever conditions you meet. Ask yourself honestly: are you confidently applying the best techniques on the bike, or have you just learnt to cope with bad habits?
Why spend years reinventing the wheel when you can gain the knowledge, the experience and continuous feedback in a matter of days? Your success will still come down to hours in the saddle — but on a solid foundation instead of a guess.
Gerhard du Toit
Motorcycling and rider training have been part of Gerhard du Toit's life from an early age. Having grown up at one of South Africa's most established motorcycle training facilities, he was exposed to motorcycles, rider development and practical instruction long before it became his profession.
Gerhard began his off-road instructor training in 2013. Because of his young age, he initially developed his experience through smaller groups, informal training sessions and one-on-one coaching. As his experience and responsibilities grew, he progressed into an official instructor role, leading larger groups and more advanced training programmes.
On 29 July 2017, Gerhard qualified in Germany as an internationally certified BMW Motorrad on-road instructor. At the time, he was the youngest person to achieve the qualification. He later served as Chief Instructor at the BMW Rider Academy South Africa before founding CityTrax.
CityTrax was created to bring the same practical philosophy, personal instruction and high training standards associated with Country Trax into a dedicated on-road motorcycle training environment.
Gerhard's riding and training experience spans road riding, adventure riding, enduro, trials, racetrack riding and long-distance motorcycle touring throughout Southern Africa. He has also worked internationally with motorcycle manufacturers, training engineers, supporting motorcycle testing and contributing to motorcycle-development projects.
Adventure riding remains his greatest passion and area of experience, but his broad background across multiple riding disciplines allows him to understand and assist riders of different experience levels and on many different types of motorcycles.
Build strong foundations, develop genuine confidence, and help every rider achieve greater control, safety and enjoyment on the motorcycle.
